Introduction of Department of Infectious Diseases
Center of liver diseases
The Department of Infectious Diseases at Tangdu hospital，Fourth Military Medical University, founded in 1949, is one of the National Key Disciplines, Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Infectious Diseases of PLA, key discipline sponsored by "211 Project", discipline with appointed professors by Changjiang Award Program, one of the national post-doctorate working station, one of the first listed key disciplines of Shaanxi Province and the first authorized training department for candidates of Doctor Degree in Infectious Diseases of PLA.
The department has a strong team of experts and famous scholars. At the moment, there are 15 professors and associate professors, of whom two are famous experts of infectious diseases: Professor Weisong Yang and Professor Yongxing Zhou. Professor Xuefan Bai, current chairman of the department, is member of Chinese Association of Infectious Diseases, editor of Journal of Chinese Infectious Diseases, and supervisor of M.D.& Ph. D. The three deputy-Chairman are Professor Yongtao Sun, Associate Professor Changxing Huang and Qinghe Nie. Among the attending physicians, more than 85% persons have Doctor's degree, four of whom have studied abroad. It has trained more than 100 candidates for Doctor Degree and Master Degree until now. More than 20 of its projects are funded by various grants, including 2 international cooperation funds, 20 funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and many provincial funds. The projects of the department have won 3 State Natural Science Award (2 second prizes and 1 third prize) and 14 Provincial Natural Science Award (second prize). The staffs of the department have edited more than 20 monographs.
It has the largest clinical and research building for infectious diseases in Chinese affiliated hospitals to medical colleges. With 100 beds in in-patient department and 2 out-patient department in Tangdu and Xijing hospital, respectively, there are 4 research laboratories: viral hepatitis, HFRS, HIV/AIDS and clinical bacteriology. At the same time, the staffs of the department lecture all the infectious diseases lessons to all the students of the university. The department is furnished with sophisticated equipment, among which are Artificial liver therapeutics apparatus, Hemodialysis machine, electronic gastroscope and enteroscope、ascites concentrate and re-transfusion apparatus、B mode ultrasonotomography、breathing machine, quantitive PCR、flow cytometer and vital sign monitor. As the only one department of diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in the university, the department has its distinguished characteristics and prominent advantages on many infectious diseases in China, such as viral hepatitis, hepatic cirrhosis, fulminate hepatitis, HFRS and AIDS.
All the wards in the in-patient department are suit rooms (two beds room or one bed room, with wash room in all wards). Patients suffered from all kinds of infectious diseases can be satisfied here, because the wards are equipped with advanced calling systems, centered oxygen supplying system, centered aspirater system,centralized control air conditioning system, colored TV and telephones, 1.1 meter width ward bed, hot water supply.

1 all kinds of liver diseases（viral hepatitis A, B, C, D and E, autoimmune hepatitis，adiposis hepatica，chemical hepatic lesion），hepatic cirrhosis, hemangiomas of liver, coma hepaticum，hepatoma). infectious diarrhea (bacillary dysentery, amebic dysentery, alimentary toxicosis), HFRS, AIDS，typhoid，influenza、mumps，chicken pox，measles，scarlet fever, rubella，Japanese B encephalitis, epidemic meningitis，malaria，bilharziasis, brucellic disease，rabies and cestodiasis。
